The Community-Based Instruction program celebrated two year of program offerings at NBA during summer 2016! We are so excited about the opportunity to continue to build this program, and reach an increased number of learners. Independent living in the Home, Leisure in the Home, Functional Living in the Community, and Group Leisure are programs that have all been continued to date.
In addition, in the spring we held NBA’s second run Run Club in preparation for the Can Do 5k and other Autism awareness races each April. This summer, we also offered Focused Leisure opportunities focusing on enjoying the outdoors and safe hiking practices, bowling, and bike-riding.
“A Day in the Life” half and full day programs were also piloted during Summer 2016 and continue to date! This program is designed to give students a more comprehensive CBI experience without having to enroll in multiple programs. The model will follow the idea of a “Day in the Life” meaning that it will target students successfully transitioning from one activity to another that may be a part of their daily life, as they continue to transition to adulthood.
We are pleased to see many new faces and hope to continue to build the number of students that we can assist in accessing their community. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with families and staff to target and program for individual needs that arise in the home and community settings.
Please look for spring registration forms early March for programs beginning in April. We are excited to get back outside this Spring and Summer! If you don’t see a program that fits your need please don’t hesitate to let me know your area of interest!
Thank you so much for all of your continued support! It continues to be an amazing experience to get to see all of the students becoming more independent in their homes and in the community.
We are excited for the opportunity to continue building a strong comprehensive program to teach our learners how to successfully access their community!
Thank you so much!
