This summer the Community-Based Instruction program celebrated one year of program offerings at NBA! We were so excited about the opportunity to continue to build this program and reach an increased number of learners. Independent living in the Home, Leisure in the Home, Functional Living in the Community, and Group Leisure are programs that have all been continued to date. In addition, last spring, we started NBA’s first run Run Club in preparation for the Can Do 5k and other Autism awareness races last April. This summer, we offered our first Focused Leisure opportunity focusing on enjoying the outdoors and safe hiking practices.
This fall we are pleased to announce that we are expanding NBA’s walls in order to have our very own vocational focused space! Learners will work towards learning vital job skills that can assist with obtaining future job placement. In addition, we’ll have our second focused leisure opportunity this fall. This time we will be providing the opportunity for weekly bowling trips. This allows students to be provided with structured and repetitive opportunities to practice and acquire skills for the environment, while working towards independence.
We are pleased to see many new faces and hope to continue to build the number of students that we can assist in accessing their community. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with families and staff to target and program for individual needs that arise in the home and community settings.
Please look for winter registration forms mid-November for programs beginning in January. If you don’t see a program that fits your need please don’t hesitate to let me know your area of interest!
Thank you so much for all of your continued support! It continues to be an amazing experience to get to see all of the students becoming more independent in their homes and in the community!
We are excited for the opportunity to continue building a strong comprehensive program to teach our learners how to successfully access their community!
Thank you so much!
